West Liberty University Provost Dr. John P. McCullough will step down today and begin a new role at the university. He has served for 40 years.
“John is a respected member of the WLU staff and his years of service to the university have gone above what is expected. He is truly beloved by his colleagues, WLU alumni and students and his contributions have played a significant role in the success of this university,” said WLU President Robin Capehart.
Although he is retiring from his position as provost, McCullough will now serve as the Special Assistant to the President. This role will allow McCullough to provide insight to the overall strategic plan of the university.
“I’m very pleased to be able to continue to contribute to the strategic planning and implementation process at West Liberty in my new role as Special Assistant to President Capehart,” commented McCullough.
As a tribute to McCullough, the university has established a prestigious giving society in his name.
“Major donors with a lifetime giving record of $25,000 or more will be members of the John P. McCullough Giving Society,” said Angie Zambito, Director of Major Gifts. “This is a way to pay acknowledge Dr. McCullough for his excellent years of service and dedication to the university,” she added.
“During the past forty years, it has been my good fortune to have been associated with many fine individuals, students, faculty, staff, administrators, coaches, alumni and benefactors who have contributed to the excellence in education that resides on the West Liberty campus,” said McCullough. “I feel very fortunate to have been a part of the wonderful community and family that represents West Liberty University, a University that has created a world of opportunity for thousands of students,” he added.
McCullough will continue to reside in Wheeling with his wife Barbra and stay an active member of the Ohio Valley community. Dr. Anthony Koyzis will now serve as provost for WLU. Koyzis’ previous role was Dean of the College of Graduate and Professional Studies at Longwood University, near Richmond, Va.
