WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — Members of West Liberty University’s Lambda Psi Sigma sorority volunteered at the YWCA in Wheeling on Saturday, Feb. 21, continuing the organization’s commitment to community service and local partnership.
Ten Lambda Psi Sigma members spent the day assisting YWCA staff by organizing the organization’s storage room and shredding outdated documents. The group also donated hygiene supplies for young residents staying at the facility.
The volunteer effort builds upon Lambda Psi Sigma’s ongoing partnership with the YWCA and reflects the organization’s goal of making a meaningful impact within the local community through service.
“My goal as our current Philanthropy Chair is to build upon our current relationships in the local community by fostering more in-person collaboration,” said Ellie Uher, Lambda Psi Sigma’s Philanthropy Chair. “I believe that hands-on work helps us best see the positive impact we’re making on these organizations.”
Members said the experience provided an opportunity to better understand the important role the YWCA plays in the region.
“It was a wonderful and insightful day spent with the lovely ladies of the YWCA,” said Kenzie Miller, Lambda Psi Sigma Panhellenic Representative.
“I loved helping the YWCA with the little jobs that go unnoticed but need to get done,” added Olivia Cinkan, president of Lambda Psi Sigma. “It really makes a big difference.”
For many participants, the opportunity to contribute directly to the organization’s mission made the experience especially meaningful.
“Getting to see firsthand the work that the YWCA does was such an amazing opportunity,” said Gracie Bush, vice president of Panhellenic. “Being able to give back beyond a donation was a memorable experience.”
Through service projects like this one, Lambda Psi Sigma continues to support community organizations while providing members with opportunities for leadership, collaboration, and meaningful civic engagement.
