Classical music lovers are invited to see pianist Pauline Rovkah Thursday, February 17th at 7:30 p.m., in the Elbin Auditorium of College Hall on the campus of West Liberty University. This concert is free and open to the public.

“Professor Rovkah will focus exclusively on the highly original and intriguing works of Hungarian composer Béla Bartók,” said Gerald Lee, WLU Associate Professor of Music.  “His captivating repertoire ranges from simple, folk-like melodies housed in neo-Classical settings to intense, harshly dissonant, almost barbaric-like declamations.”

Rovkah is Head of the Piano Program at Chatham University in Pittsburgh, and holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from the Kharkov Special Music School and Conservatory (Kotlyarevsky State University of Arts), Ukraine. She has performed in various concert series, including the Steinway Society of Western Pennsylvania, Duquesne University, Frick Art Museum, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and Chatham University.

Rovkah has also participated in prestigious music festivals at the Chautauqua Institution (New York) and at Cambridge University, UK.  After winning a national competition, she gave solo and chamber music performances in Rome, Italy for the Rome Festival.  She conceived, organized and performed in a number of thematic concert events in honor of Chatham University’s Global Focus program; in addition, she is founder and artistic director of the Chamber Music Series at Chatham.  Ms. Rovkah’s solo recitals and chamber music performances have been recorded and broadcast in programs by Pittsburgh Classical Radio (WQED), including “Performance in Pittsburgh.”
