The time capsule, slated to be sealed later next week, represents a tangible link between West Liberty’s past, present, and future. There is still an opportunity to witness the viewing of the time capsule, which contains a carefully curated selection of artifacts encapsulating the essence of the university’s storied history and its vision for the years ahead.

Donations for the time capsule are welcome until Friday, April 19, ensuring a diverse array of items are preserved. The capsule will remain locked until the university’s Bicentennial celebration in 2037, and again in 2137, offering future generations a glimpse into the institution’s enduring legacy.

Amanda Welsch, Director of Alumni Affairs, expressed the significance of the occasion, stating, “West Liberty University has been a source of inspiration and excellence for more than a hundred years. As we seal our time capsule, we’re honoring the lasting legacy of our institution and setting the stage for future generations to cherish our collective history and accomplishments.”

Among the contents of the time capsule are notable artifacts such as a 1902 State Normal School yearbook, a copy of the 1942 Trumpet, a Smoky Mountain Football Bowl ticket from 1950, an NCAA 50th anniversary medallion, and even a snapshot of the university’s student life post-pandemic experience laid out in a photo book.
