WEST LIBERTY, W.VA., Sept. 10, 2019 — West Liberty University has been ranked as a “hidden gem” in the Northeast by College Raptor, an online college planning platform that provides information for students researching the best colleges and universities at the best price.

“We’re pleased that College Raptor is recognizing something we’ve known for a long time, that West Liberty University is a good choice for students seeking a quality education at an affordable price. WLU also has the highest four year public graduation rate in West Virginia, another point of pride for our university,” said Dr. Stephen Greiner, WLU president.

WLU was ranked as one of three “hidden gem” schools in the Mountain State. (See the full ranking here.)

“Finding hidden gem schools for students is core to how we help families discover great college choices. We take pride in making it easy for students to make those connections through our Hidden Gems Rankings lists by highlighting excellent schools like WLU,” said Bill Staib, CEO of College Raptor.

The Northeast region of the United States is known as a powerhouse for amazing colleges, according to Staib.

This selection recognizes WLU as one of the best colleges in the country, based on a combination of factors, including number of applications received, graduation rates, campus diversity, endowment per student, and other key metrics as reported via the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) for the most recently available enrollment year.

The following states were included as part of the Northeast: Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and West Virginia, along with the District of Columbia. College Raptor’s full methodology is outlined here.

To qualify as a hidden gem, a school must meet the following requirements: receive fewer than 5,000 applications and have fewer than 7,000 undergraduate students.

West Liberty University is West Virginia’s oldest public university and offers more than 70 undergraduate majors, plus a growing number of graduate programs.
