West Liberty Celebrates Oglebay Institute’s 80th Anniversary

West Liberty University’s Division of Music will present several concerts, and the Division of Art and Division of Communications are also involved in multiple events as part of the celebration of Oglebay Institute’s 80th Anniversary this April.

Division of Music:
Sunday, April 18th, 2010
4pm at the Capitol Music Hall

West Liberty will also present a concert of Jazz and Steel Drum music on April 18th at 4pm at the Capitol Theater in Wheeling. The concert will feature the West Liberty Jazz Ensemble, the West Liberty Steel Band, the John Marshall High School Steel Band, and the Wheeling Park High School Steel Band.

The performance will include featured soloists Dr. Matthew Inkster and Tyrone Price.  Dr. Matthew Inkster serves as the Director of Bands and Professor of Trumpet at West Liberty University.  Mr. Tyrone Price is a distinguished alumnus of WLU and an active professional jazz musician in the Ohio Valley. He taught music in the Hancock Co. Schools for 39 years.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students, seniors, and children under 12.

Saturday, April 17th
Dr. Linda Cowan and WLU professor Dr. Angela Day will present “A Tribute to Boris Goldovsky” on Saturday April 17th at the Stifel Center along with a piano recital by WLU professor Dr. Gerald Lee.

Friday, April 16th
West Liberty students and Dr. Cowan will present “Puttin’ on the Ritz: Songs of the 1920s” prior to the opening curtain of “The Matchmaker” at the Towngate Theater on Friday, April 16th.

Division of Art:
West Liberty University’s Division of Art will also help celebrate the 80th anniversary of Oglebay Institute.

West Liberty students and faculty will be contributing and participating in a number of events alongside WLU’s Division of Music and WLU’s Division of Communications.

Throughout the event art students and faculty participating in a variety of events. From the creation of a mural, gallery exhibition, plein air painting and chalk drawings in Center Market, Raku firing and working with children at the Stifel, West Liberty’s spirit and love of the arts will be on full display.
