West Liberty University is pleased to sponsor the winter concert of the Wheeling Symphony Youth Orchestra at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 3. It will be held at Vance Memorial Church, 905 National Road, Wheeling, and is free and open to the public.

“West Liberty is pleased to support our young musicians, the community and the Wheeling Symphony through this sponsorship,” said Vice President of Institutional Advancement Jason Koegler.

WLU Director of Instrumental Activities Matthew Inkster is the director of the youth orchestra.

“The Wheeling Symphony Youth Orchestra’s winter concert will feature some great music that showcases our young students. We invite the public to enjoy the show and share our pride in these young musicians,” he said.

The program will include the following pieces: Lincoln Portrait by Aaron Copeland, Forever Free, by Kenneth Fuchs (Wheeling Symphony premiered this work last summer) and Russian Christmas music.

Youth Orchestra Manager Michelle Stack also is a member of the WLU campus community and is director of the College Union. A professional musician, she plays the viola in the Wheeling Symphony.

“This program will delight all ages of music lovers. It’s one you won’t want to miss,” Stack said.

The Wheeling Symphony Youth Orchestra and the newly formed Wheeling Symphony Junior Orchestra, under the direction of Justin Jones, offers young musicians from the tri-state area a formal venue in which to train and perform together. Youth Orchestra members are high school through college age students and Junior Orchestra members are 5th through 8th grade students.

Rehearsals for both orchestras are held weekly from September through April, with two big public concerts each year.

Joining WLU as concert sponsors are: Bedway Development Corporation, James L. Comerci, M.D., Micah Labishak, McCamic, Sacco and McCoid, Main Street Bank, Dr. Dennis and Donna Niess, Sapon & Sapon, D.D.S., Select Home Support, Paul Tucker and Ye Olde Alpha.

A reception will follow the performance. For more information, please contact the Wheeling Symphony at 304.232.6191.
