The University Economics Club will welcome journalist and Research Fellow of Heartland Institute’s Joy Pullmann at noon, Thursday, July 24 to the River City Restaurant, 1400 Main Street.
Pullmann’s work has been published by the New York Times, the Washington Examiner, the Weekly Standard and other newspapers and publications. She co-authored “Design Guidelines for Parent Triggers” with current Heartland Institute President Joseph L. Bast.
She also is the 2013 recipient of a Robert Novak journalism scholarship for in-depth reporting on Common Core national education standards and has traveled nationwide to speak at prominent venues including Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), the National Right to Life Convention, and statewide education conferences.
Pullmann has taught middle and high school history, literature and debate, and wrote high school public speaking curriculum. A graduate of the Hillsdale College (Mich.) honors program with an English major and journalism concentration, she received statewide competitive collegiate honors for her reporting and commentary and ranked in the top 25 nationally in parliamentary debate.
Heartland Institute is an American conservative and libertarian public policy think tank based in Chicago that advocates free market policies.
Funded through a grant from the BB&T Center, the University Economics Club is sponsored by the Center for Economic Philosophy, chaired by Dr. Erik Root, associate professor of political science at West Liberty University.
It seeks to engage faculty, students and the public in serious and sustained examination of the free market.
