University Economics Club Presents “Point-Counterpoint”

The University Economics Club Lecture Series welcomes two distinguished speakers at noon, Thursday, Feb. 28, in a Point-Counterpoint discussion, moderated by Wheeling radio talk show host Howard Monroe.  The luncheon presentation will be held at River City Restaurant, 1400 Main Street, Wheeling, and is open to the public.

John Brabender

The topic will be the current environment in Washington, D.C. and the discussion will be between two prominent political consultants, John Brabender and Tad Devine.

Brabender is managing partner and chief creative officer of BrabenderCox, a national political consulting and advertising firm. He has served as a campaign and advertising consultant in nearly every state, including for political contenders Tom Coburn, David Vitter, Rick Santorum, Linda Lingle, Tom Corbett and for the 2008 Giuliani Presidential campaign.

Devine is president of Devine Mulvey, a Washington D.C. based media consulting firm. Formerly, he was a senior adviser in Al Gore’s 2000 and John Kerry’s 2004 presidential campaigns.  He has worked on ten winning campaigns for president and prime minister around the world and 17 winning U.S. Senate races.

Tad Devine

Founded in 2009, the BB&T Center for Economic Philosophy at West Liberty University seeks to engage faculty, students and the public in serious and sustained examination of the free market.

In recent years BB&T’s charitable foundation awarded grants to dozens of colleges and universities to support teaching about capitalism.

The University Economics Club is sponsored by the Center for Economic Philosophy and Dr. Erik Root, associate professor of political science, is chairman of the center.
