University Concert Band to Present Winter Concert

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Nov. 25, 2019 — The West Liberty University Concert Band, under the direction of Dr. Gretchen Pohlman will present their winter concert at 6:30 p.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, located at 141 Kruger St., Wheeling.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Pohlman joined WLU in 2018 and has been working hard to build the band. It now has around 50 WLU students, along area community members and some area high school members as members.

The concert will feature works composed by Julie Giroux, Leroy Anderson, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Vaclav Nelhybel and Mannheim Steamroller.

The West Liberty University Division of Music is nationally accredited by NASM, the National Association of Schools of Music, and is recognized for its award-winning faculty and staff.

WLU’s Department of Music and Theater is housed within the College of Arts and Communication led by College Dean Dr. Matthew Harder and department chair Dr. Linda Cowan. It offers Bachelor of Music degrees in Music Performance and Music Technology and the Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education. Students also may choose to minor in music.

Performance opportunities WLU students include the Marching Hilltoppers, the University Wind Symphony, University Band, African Drumming and Dance Ensemble, Steel Bands, Jazz Combos, Percussion Ensemble, WLU Singers, Choral Scholars, Hilltop Opera, and the Electronic Music Ensemble.
