West Liberty University’s College of Arts and Communications has completed the third and final year as host of the West Virginia Governor’s School for the Arts with closing ceremonies Saturday afternoon, July 17th.

The Governor’s School for the Arts (GSA) invites West Virginia high school sophomores who exhibit talent in the literary, performing and visual arts.  The three-week school has brought more than one hundred of the most promising artistic students from around the state to West Liberty’s campus.

Students attending the GSA are exposed to practicing professionals, many of them WLU faculty, in their respective fields of writing, dance, music, acting, digital media, drawing and painting.  WLU Professor of Music Alfred deJaager has coordinated the program for the three year contract with West Liberty.

West Liberty’s Department of Music and Theater mainly utilized the Hall of Fine Arts and its Media Arts Center while the students had the opportunity to additionally enjoy all that WLU’s campus has to offer.

West Liberty also hosted the Governor’s School for the Arts in 2001 and 2002 prior to the the just completed three year run.  In 2011, the Governor’s School for the Arts will be hosted at a yet to be announced West Virginia institution.
