WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — Three outstanding West Liberty University students recently presented their research at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research in Richmond, Virginia.
The National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) is dedicated to promoting undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activity across all fields of study through its annual conference. The event brings together student scholars from institutions across the country and provides a unique environment to celebrate undergraduate achievement, showcase exemplary work, and support career readiness development.
Gwyneth Horzempa, a data science major with a pre-law minor, presented a poster summarizing her research, “Gun Violence and Data Science: Understanding the Gun Violence Death Rate Through Feature Importance and PCA.”
Tiffany Sites, a music major, presented an original composition, “The Fusion of Indian Music and American Pop,” discussing her creative process during an oral presentation and performing the piece.
Hunter Hersey, a digital media design major, presented his research on the gaming industry titled “As Indies Rise, Innovation Thrives.”
The students were accompanied by Jared Thompson, assistant professor of digital media design.
“This conference invites undergraduate students from across the country to present their research. To be selected, all three West Liberty students advanced through a competitive process,” said Cecilia Konchar Farr, Dean of the College of Liberal and Creative Arts. “We are delighted they represented such diverse fields of study. It is evidence that across our programs, West Liberty faculty bring out the best in our students, encouraging them to achieve and perform at the highest levels among the country’s best students.”
