WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Oct. 19, 2016 — West Liberty University welcomes Theta Xi Fraternity back to campus this spring.
“This fraternity was last here in the 1990s and we are proud to have them return. Theta Xi has great alumni support here at the university. Now it’s recruiting members for this spring,” campus activities coordinator Kate Billings explained.
Billings oversees Greek Life and is in her third year at WLU. As a college student she herself was a member of a sorority so she understands the value for students.
Theta Xi at WLU was formerly established as part of its Beta Phi Chapter in November 1966, according to Ian Pellerin, director of fraternity growth at national headquarters, located in St. Louis, Mo.
“Beginning in January, a select group of men will have the opportunity to create an exceptional fraternal experience with the assistance of both alumni volunteers and headquarters personnel. West Liberty University is home to a growing fraternity community with a supportive and highly engaged staff and we have much to look forward to,” said Pellerin.
He went on to explain that Theta Xi will offer “an un-housed experience that builds true men dedicated to leading their campus and community, and to serving the greater good.”
The recruitment and rebuilding effort will be overseen by headquarters staff, and will focus on identifying men who are committed to life-long friendship, brotherhood, and values based member development.
“The growth of our existing chapters is a significant part of Theta Xi’s strategic future. Likewise, the decision to bring former chapters back into the fold is equally as important to the long-term success of the Theta Xi and its Beta Phi Chapter,” he said.
Founded in 1864 at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Theta Xi Fraternity promotes leadership and service to more than 60,000 alumni and 49 undergraduate chapters and colonies across the United States.
“I have been meeting with a small Theta Xi alumni committee and they are so excited to have their fraternity back on campus. They participated in our recent homecoming and enjoyed a large turnout this year. It will be great to have Theta Xi back on campus,” said Ron Witt, executive director of Alumni and Community Relations.
