WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Oct. 18, 2021 — West Liberty University’s Sarah Whitaker Glass School of Dental Hygiene is celebrating National Dental Hygiene Month by reminding campus of the importance of maintaining a good routine of dental care for a healthy smile.

“Dental health is important to everyone’s overall health,” said Stephanie Meredith, program director. “We encourage everyone to visit their dentist regularly and stay on top of their oral hygiene.”

The Sarah Whitaker Glass School of Dental Hygiene was established in 1938 and graduated its first class in 1940. Accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation, it offers both the Associate of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees.

Most recently it added the online Master of Science in Dental Hygiene (MSDH). The MSDH 30-credit hour program allows working professionals to advance their career while holding a full-time job due to the convenient structure of the two-year program.

Sixty-six undergraduate students and 11 MSDH students are currently working toward their degrees.

WLU’s dental hygiene clinic, which is open to the public, is located in the Campbell Hall of Health Sciences and includes 24 dental operatories equipped with A-DEC brand dental units (Austin Dental Equipment Company).

The radiography suite consists of nine patient treatment rooms equipped with Gendex x-ray machines for conventional and digital x-ray imaging. AxiUm Ascend dental practice management software is utilized. All classrooms are equipped with current educational technology.

The Sarah Whitaker Glass School of Dental Hygiene is part of WLU’s College of Sciences, one of four colleges, housed at WLU.

West Liberty University is West Virginia’s oldest institution and it offers more than 70 undergraduate majors, plus a growing number of master degree programs.
