The holidays often mean transfer discussions for families welcoming college freshmen back home. In fact, according to the National Association for College Admission Counseling, one-third of college students transfer to another school to complete their bachelor’s degree. Many of the reasons have to do with finances or degrees desired.
Applications for transfer admissions are accepted throughout the year at WLU and inquiries are welcomed over the holidays.
“The process is easy and we do have financial aid available, even at midterm,” said Rhonda Tysk, admissions counselor and assistant transfer counselor. “Students are often coming from a two-year school and want to complete their bachelor’s degree. We make the transfer as seamless and easy as possible. We have excellent programs at an affordable cost.”
It’s not too late to register since transfers are accepted right up till the first day of second semester classes, which is Jan. 14, 2013. To be considered for admission, transfer applicants must normally have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale. Students who transfer also have to be eligible to return to the last college that they attended.
“Picking the right college is tricky sometimes and many students find after the fall semester, it’s time to rethink their choice. We are here to help,” said Stephanie North, WLU transfer coordinator and supervisor of admissions.
“West Liberty is not a university where you will get lost in the shuffle either. The atmosphere on campus is friendly and informal. Classes are small, averaging 25-30 students. Classroom relationships are close and encourage students to develop as an individual,” she said.
West Liberty offers the University Scholarship to all first time transfer students who have not been enrolled as a previous student at WLU. This three-year scholarship provides $2,000 per academic year.
West Liberty University also has articulation agreements with the following institutions:
- Belmont College
- Community College of Allegheny County
- Eastern Gateway Community College
- West Virginia Northern Community College
