WEST LIBERTY, W.VA., January 29, 2024 — Approximately 250 students and 49 West Liberty clubs and organizations filled the Union Ballroom from 11-2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24 for the spring Organizational Fair hosted by the Office of Student Life.
With more than 50 active organizations, WLU provides opportunities for all students to become involved in campus life. All organizations have specific goals, objectives, and functions. From Biology Club to Poetry Club, Fencing Club to Disability Advocacy Club, there is something for everyone’s aspirations on the hilltop.
Best known as the Org Fair, the event is held every semester as an opportunity for student groups to promote their cause and to stay connected with the rest of the student body.
For the Student Government Association, the Org Fair is a time to remind students that they are there for their student experience. “The Student Government Association tables not only to recruit new senators but also so students are aware that we are a continual resource for them,” said Audrie Shreve, the Director of Programming. “It is easy to come forward and voice concerns while we are at the Org Fair, however it is extremely important to us that students know they can contact us with whatever problem.”
Serena Smith is the Graduate Assistant Advisor for the Community Outreach Club and wants to bring awareness to her organization’s cause. “The Community Outreach Club is an organization focused on impact and outreach in the community concentrated on service. We are so thankful the organization fair provides our campus community the opportunity to join great organizations like ours,” she said.
Other clubs and organizations utilize this event to connect and engage with other students on campus.
Phi Delta Theta, a fraternity on campus, wants to promote its presence on campus. “My brothers and I tabled at this year’s Org Fair primarily to spread the word of our brotherhood to students. We also want to network with other clubs and organizations on campus, so we can continue to partner with different groups to bring more events to West Liberty,” said four-year member Andrew Dalton.
The WLU Dance Team shared similar sentiments. “The dance team tabled at the org fair because not only is it tradition but it is the best way to get our name and faces out to the student body. The org fair helps us to find new talent and recruit new dancers to expand our team,” said Captain and Coach of the WLU Dance team, Alanna Lynch.
Kate Billings, the Director of Student Activities and the Title IX Coordinator was excited to see so many groups this spring. “In the first few weeks of the semester, we have had new clubs register with our office, which means new opportunities for growing interests on campus. Even if a student missed the fair, we encourage them to come by our student life lounge or email us so we can connect them to the organizations that interest them,” Billings said.
