WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. Feb. 20, 2020 — West Liberty University welcomes Marjorie Fuller to campus for a special presentation, “2020: A New Decade of Exploring Diversity, Equity and Inclusion,” at noon, Wednesday, Feb. 26 in College Hall.
Fuller is the director of West Virginia University’s Center for Black Culture and Research.
“We are pleased to have Marjorie Fuller joining us and discussing this important topic with our students and staff during Black History Month,” said Chris McPherson, one of the co-chairs of the WLU Diversity Committee and interim director of the Learning & Student Development Center.
Fuller is a twenty-five-year professional in the areas of Diversity and Pan African Studies, and prior to coming to West Virginia University, she was a professor in the Department of Pan African Studies at Kent State University.
Earlier in her career she served as assistant dean for Intercultural Life at Knox College in Galesburg, Ill., and as the director of Diversity Affairs at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.
Fuller specialties are the development of retention initiatives for students of color and other underrepresented groups, research tours that focus on unique aspects of the African American experience, and presenting on topics that focus on culture, race, and ethnicity.
Fuller serves on the executive board of the National Association of Black Culture Centers, and is a past national representative of BMcPIE, Black and Multicultural Professionals in International Education (part of NAFSA, the Association of International Educators).
She is also a member of other national organizations such as the National Association of Women Educators and the American Association of Blacks in Higher Education, where she also has presented.
She is currently completing her dissertation for a doctoral degree in Higher Education Administration and Leadership Studies.
The WLU Diversity Committee includes both staff and faculty. It meets throughout the academic year and is chaired by McPherson and Felipe Rojas.
