WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Jan. 24, 2022 — West Liberty University students will have more food in the pantry this semester thanks to Sodexo Food Services.

“This is great news. Our food service provider, Sodexo, took the initiative to apply for a grant and was awarded a $1,000 that is now being used to purchase needed food supplies and other items for our student food pantry,” said Kate Billings, WLU’s director of Student Activities.

WLU Sodexo manager Rebecca Bowman applied for a Stop Hunger Foundation Grant for University Food Pantries and presented Billings with the check not long ago.

“I’m pleased that the grant was accepted and that Sodexo is able to help our students eat healthy in yet another way,” Bowman said. Sodexo already provides WLU students with a full-service dining room, located in Rogers Hall and a convenience store, coffee shop and fast food options, located in the College Union.

Food insecurity among college students is always a concern across the nation and can be a barrier to graduating. Many times, it’s commuters and students who live off campus that are struggling to stay on top of food expenses while attending class full time.

Other times it might be international students who can’t leave campus easily to go home during breaks.

Located on the second floor of the College Union, the Student Food Pantry is easy to find in room S-17. Hours and accessibility are monitored by the Student Life Staff.

According to Sodexo.com, Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation works to ensure that every child in the United States, especially those most at risk, grows up with dependable access to enough nutritious food to enable them to lead a healthy, productive life.

In addition to awarding grants to youth scholars and employees, the Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation provides contributions to several national and local non-profits helping to end hunger, engages Sodexo employees in community volunteerism and supports programs that help empower women.
