Singers and Choral Scholars Concert features World Premiere

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., April 26, 2019 – West Liberty University Singers and Choral Scholars will present a final spring concert at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, April 28 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, located at 141 Kruger St.

Offering an afternoon of inspiring music with choral classics, this concert marks the end of a successful school year and features a world premiere of a commissioned work by Pittsburgh-based composer Chris Massa.

“Please join us for an afternoon of entertaining music that features an all-new piece of music by this young composer,” said WLU Director of Choral Activities Ryan Keeling, who will direct the performance.

The concert will feature music for voices and percussion. Professor Mitch Greco is the WLU director of percussion and world music.

The WLU Singers include 26 voices and the Choral Scholars consist of 12 students, according to Keeling.

The concert is free to the public, though donations will be accepted.

The Division of Music at West Liberty University offers undergraduate degrees in Music Education, Music Performance, and Music Technology. Among its many ensembles are the WLU Singers, the Wind Symphony, University Band, WLU Community Choir, Hilltop Opera, Choral Scholars, Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, African Drum and Dance Ensemble, Steel Band and Electronic Music Ensemble.
