Russian Student Presentation Will Look at Sochi Olympics, Moscow, Samara

West Liberty University international student, Olga Karpenko, will be giving a presentation about her home country of Russia from 3 p.m. – 4 p.m., Jan. 27, in the Alumni Room of the College Union.

Entitled “Welcome to Russia,” Karpenko will be discussing Russian national symbols, 2014 Sochi Olympic Games, Moscow and Samara.

Sochi, Russia is the site for the XXII 2014 Winter Olympic Games. Ceremonies begin Feb. 7 and will continue through Feb. 23. Ninety-four countries will participate in 15 different winter events.

WLU has 55 students this semester from 23 different countries that are part of the UGRAD exchange program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and Karpenko is one of these.

The Global UGRAD Program in Eurasia and Central Asia is a program of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

Semester-long programs of study and exploration of U.S. culture and integration into American communities, helps these students develop an understanding of U.S. values. They become citizen ambassadors who support expanded diplomatic and development partnerships for both countries.
