Presidential Candidates Visits Rescheduled

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., March 16, 2020 — West Liberty University’s Presidential Search Committee announced today that the dates for presidential candidates to visit campus over the next few weeks have been altered.

“In light of the coronavirus emergency, we have asked the remaining candidates to adjust their schedules and they have agreed to do so,” said Committee Chairman Rich Lucas.

Candidate visits will begin now on March 29 – 30 when Dr. Joe Delap visits. Delap is provost and vice president for academic affairs at Athens State University in Alabama and is a tenured professor.

Next up will be Dr. Brian Crawford, an internal candidate, who is scheduled to perform his official visit on April 1 – 2. He has worked at WLU for more than 20 years in several capacities, including serving as acting president for three months in 2014. Currently provost, Crawford is the former dean of the College of Liberal Arts.

Dr. Robert Colvin will visit campus on April 6 – 7. A resident of Virginia, he has spent 21 years in higher education, both as a faculty member and administrator. He is vice provost for undergraduate education at Christopher Newport University, a public liberal arts university in Newport News, Va.

The final candidate visit is now scheduled for April 8 – 9 when Dr. David Haney visits. A higher education consultant, he is an author and former president of Centenary University in Hackettstown, N.J. Prior to that, he was vice president for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty at Emory & Henry College, Emory, Va. where he served for four years.

After the candidates visit campus and meet with alumni, staff, students and faculty, the search committee with evaluate the campus interviews and offer their suggestions to the Board of Governors, which makes the final selection.

An announcement is expected on that selection by the end of April. Current President Dr. Stephen Greiner plans to retire at the end of June.
