WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., March 16, 2016 — A fun musical performance by West Liberty University music students performing in the Wind Ensemble, will take place at 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 23 in College Hall.
“This Odds and Evens concert is music that is full of asymmetry, both melodically and rhythmically. It’s also music that’s been written for winds and percussion in the last 40 years by American composers,” said Patrick Garrett, WLU’s interim director of bands and director of music education.
“The concert is not a heavy program and will be enjoyable for all ages and levels of music fan,” he added. “We also will be performing a special preview concert at 10 a.m. Wednesday in College Hall, as we host approximately 150 student musicians from local middle and high schools. Anyone on campus or in the community is welcome to attend this preview as well.”
The Wind Ensemble includes many instruments and is basically a smaller version of a concert band, without strings, according to Garrison.
“We have one player per part, generally, creating intimate music. The responsibility on the individual musician is intense which makes it perfect for university students,” he said. Musicians and instruments include:
