WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Oct. 11, 2022 — The Nutting Gallery welcomes artist Kevin Bennington to campus this Wednesday, Oct. 12 for its 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. opening of the “Influence Through Awareness” exhibition. The show continues through Nov. 16, 2022.
“My focus is to inform viewers of how important pollution-awareness is to our environment. Some of the works here are traditional in that they are created for viewers to view. Others are made to be interactive in displaying the pristine and polluted environments by opening and closing or rotating panels,” explained Bennington.
Bennington is an associate professor of art at Concord University. He earned his Master of Fine Arts degree from Miami International University of Art & Design.
“Kevin’s work is a different type of exhibition than we have shown recently. The entire show is thematic and relates to the beauty of our state and the problems that pollution and trash present. Most of the work has an interactive component so the viewer is encouraged to adjust the images and think about what is being presented,” said Brian Fencl, WLU professor of art and director of the Nutting Gallery.
Located in WLU’s Fine Arts Building, the regular hours of the Nutting Gallery are 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Fridays, weekends and other times are by arrangement only.
The Nutting Gallery is dedicated to educating, enriching, and engaging students and the public through art exhibitions of the highest quality. Fulfilling this mission through eight exhibitions during the academic year, the exhibition schedule includes five exhibitions by visiting artists, two Senior Exhibitions, and the Annual Art Faculty Exhibition.
