WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Jan. 3, 2019 — Community members who enjoy singing are invited to join the choir at West Liberty University this year.

“The WLU Community Choir is open to everyone who likes to sing. We hope you will make plans to join us for our spring semester of music making. We’ll be preparing an eclectic choral/orchestral concert featuring a cantata by J.S. Bach, a Jazz Mass by Bob Chilcott, and arrangements of American hymns and folksongs by Mack Wilberg,” said WLU Director of Choral Activities Ryan Keeling.

All interested singers are welcome, from high school to adult and new members can simply show up on Jan. 14 at the 7 p.m. rehearsal or contact Ryan Keeling at ryan.keeling@westliberty.edu or by phone 304.336.8090.

Vance Presbyterian Church, located at 905 National Road, is the site for WLU Community Choir rehearsals.

Rehearsals are held on Monday evenings, from 7-9 p.m. beginning Jan. 14 and culminate with an afternoon concert on Saturday April 13 to be held at Vance Memorial Presbyterian Church.

The Community Choir requires no audition and has been active for four years. Students are free but other choir members are asked to pay a nominal fee of $35.

“The Community Choir is a really fun inter-generational group of singers from high school age up that meets weekly for fast-paced, challenging rehearsals culminating in a public performance with professional orchestra,” Keeling said.

A resident of Pittsburgh, Keeling joined WLU as its director of Choral Activities this past July. Also an alumnus, he is the artistic director of Western Pennsylvania’s premier chamber choir Voces Solis and assistant conductor of the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, as well as the Music Director of OvreArts.

The Division of Music at West Liberty University offers undergraduate degrees in Music Education, Music Performance, and Music Technology. Among its many ensembles are the University Singers, Wind Ensemble, College Community Chorus, Choral Scholars, Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and Electronic Music Ensemble.
