Industry Leader Shares Tips with Business Students

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., April 23, 2019 — The Gary E. West College of Business at West Liberty University welcomes an auto industry leader to its Executive Seminar Series as J. Davis “Dave” Illingworth visits West Liberty University this spring.

His inspiring talk will be open to the public and takes place at 1 p.m., on Wednesday, April 24 in College Hall.

“Dave is a dynamic speaker with an interesting story to share. His hard work and determination combine with a caring vision. Our students will benefit from the chance to hear his words of advice,” said Dave Wright, associate professor of management.

Illingworth is the president of Toyota Warsaw where he has been the dealer for the past 10 years. Illingworth is also a board member of Toyota Material Handling, N.A.

Formerly, he was the senior vice president chief planning and administrative officer for Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A.

Illingworth was with Lexus from the division’s inception in 1987 through 1992 and as vice president and general manager of the division he has been instrumental in making Lexus an industry leader regarding customer satisfaction, sales and quality.

In recognition of his work, he was named automotive “Man of the Year” in 1992 by Automobile magazine.

From 1992 through 1997, he was senior vice president general manager of the Toyota Division. In 1997 the Toyota Camry became the number #1 selling car in America and for his efforts in accomplishing this Dave was recognized by Automotive News as a “Top 10 Newsmaker.”

Along with his successful career in the automobile industry, Illingworth also is the author of the book “God of Hope” and is president of God of Hope, Inc. dedicated to telling stories about Jesus in a gentle and respectful manner.

The Executive Seminar Series has been presenting business leaders to WLU students since 1986. It features successful business, political and alumni leaders who provide a valuable business advice and real life experience by sharing inspiring stories.
