POSTED:  Aug. 20, 2012 – West Liberty University athletic director Jim Watson has announced the hiring of Kayla Fetsko as the Hilltoppers’ new head volleyball coach. She replaces Brooke Turner, who resigned to pursue other opportunities last month after posting a 45-115 record in five seasons at the helm.

A native of Johnstown, Pa., Fetsko is no stranger to success on the volleyball court as she comes to West Liberty after spending the past two seasons as an assistant coach with the nationally-ranked Wheeling Jesuit program.

Her duties at WJU included coaching the junior-varsity team, working with the varsity squad and performing various administrative tasks.

During her two years with the Cardinals, Wheeling Jesuit won back-to-back West Virginia Conference championships and posted a sizzling 69-9 (.885) match record – including a perfect 28-0 mark in league play. Last year’s Cardinal squad followed up its WVIAC title by winning the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region crown and earning a trip to the Elite Eight national championships in San Bernardino, Calif.

Fetsko played her college volleyball at Slippery Rock (Pa.) University, earning back-to-back PSAC Scholar-Athlete honors in 2006 and 2007. She also worked as an administrative assistant in the SRU athletic department while completing her degree. A 2010 graduate of Slippery Rock with a Marketing and Management degree, Fetsko also holds an MBA from Wheeling Jesuit.

The Hilltoppers’ new coach was a multi-sport athlete at Bishop McCort High School. A three-year letterwinner and All-Conference standout on the volleyball court, Fetsko also earned two basketball letters and lettered one year with the track team.

The daughter of Kenneth and Patricia Fetsko of Johnstown, Fetsko will make her head coaching debut on Aug. 31 when West Liberty takes on Ursuline College in a 1 p.m. match at the Falcon Fest Tournament in Fairmont, W.Va.
