WEST LIBERTY, WV, January 30, 2024 – This June, West Liberty University will offer a one-week camp for young musicians called “Hilltopper Youth Music”.

“This affordable camp experience is open to young musicians who are rising into grades 6 through 12,” says Dr. Matthew Harder, Chair of the Department of Music & Theater at WLU. “We are thrilled to offer this camp during the summer on our beautiful campus in West Liberty.”

The camp will be held June 16 through June 22.  The $500 fee includes housing, meals, lessons, activities, and more. Scholarships may be available based on financial need.

“There are very few summer music programs in this area for young people,” says Dr. Harder. “Hilltopper Youth Music will provide an exciting musical and educational experience for middle school and high school students who want to continue their musical growth during the summer months.”

Hilltopper Youth Music is open to singers and instrumentalists alike and features daily rehearsals and special evening activities. All students will receive a commemorative t-shirt. The camp concludes with concert performances and a picnic for families.

The camp will be led by Dr. Douglas McCall, Director of Choral Activities, and assisted by Dr. Alvin Simpson, Director of Bands. Classes and lessons will also be taught by other WLU music faculty, staff, and students.
