Hilltop Ready for Homecoming

WEST LIBERTY, Oct. 7, 2019 — West Liberty University celebrates Homecoming 2019 the weekend of Oct. 11 – 13 with football, tailgating and activities perfect for returning alumni and current students, family and friends.

Students begin with the traditional Serenades at 9 p.m., today, Oct. 7 in College Hall. An entertainment competition, the show features all homecoming candidates performing for judges and is sponsored by Student Government Association (SGA). King and Queen candidates and the organizations they represent include:

From 4 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8, candidates will take on the role of Celebrity Servers in the Marketplace cafeteria. From 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 9, candidates campaign on the quad during Tent Day, offering free goodies to students as they vie for selection by the student body. Students then vote for their choice of king and queen from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. in the Alumni Room, College Union.

Tailgating starts at 9 am Saturday with a new event for alumni, Rise and Shine with Glaze and Grinds!

New this year is a Candidate Service Project that is required for all candidates and their sponsoring clubs. According to SGA Director of Activities Charli McConnell, the service work will be take place Friday in the town of West Liberty and is coordinated through the mayor’s office.

Alumni get started celebrating with the 9 a.m. Friday, Annual Homecoming Golf Outing at Oglebay’s Jones Course. Other alumni events on Friday include the President’s Recognition Dinner and Wall of Honor induction ceremony held at the Highlands Event Center. This private dinner event honors donors. From 9 p.m. – midnight, alumni are invited to the annual reunion party at Undo’s in the Grove.

Saturday starts with a new event for alumni called Rise and Shine with Glaze and Grinds. This donuts, fruit and coffee breakfast takes place in the Alumni Tent from 9 – 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by guided tours of campus and is sponsored by the WLU Foundation.

Tailgating, with food trucks, live music, and family-friendly activities for all ages, begins at 9 a.m.

At 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 12, the Hilltopper Homecoming Parade led by the Marching Hilltoppers begins.

Kick off is at 1 pm at West Family Stadium. #GoWLU

Students and alumni are invited to tailgate before and during the homecoming game as the Hilltoppers take on the Concord University Mountain Lions, with kick-off at 1 p.m. at the West Family Stadium.

During halftime of the football game, the alumni Wall of Honor candidates for 2019 and the Homecoming King and Queen will be announced. (Wall of Honor alumni for 2019 are Engineering CEO Fred Kinder and Banking CEO Rich Lucas.)

Students end their homecoming festivities with a 10 p.m. – 2 a.m. dance at WLU’s Academic, Sports and Recreation Complex (ASRC).

Alumni will enjoy the after-game at the newly opened Mac’s Club II located directly across from campus and the annual Homecoming Post Party planned for 10 p.m. – 2 a.m. at Generations Restaurant & Pub.

Sunday includes another invitation only event, the dedication of the West Family Athletic Complex and Tim Weaver Memorial Track.

After the ceremony, there is a soccer double header on the new field with WLU taking on the University of Charleston, men play at 1 p.m. and women at 3 p.m.
