Hilltop Players End Season with Shakespearean Tragedy

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., April 16, 2018 — West Liberty University Hilltop Players concludes the 2017-2018 theater season with William Shakespeare’s tragedy “Romeo and Juliet.” The production opens at 7:30 p.m., April 19 in Kelly Theatre and continues at 7:30 p.m., April 20-21 and at 3 p.m., April 22.

One of Shakespeare’s early poetic masterworks, “Romeo and Juliet” follows two star-crossed lovers from love at first sight to eternal life hereafter and is directed by Associate Professor of Theater Michael Aulick.

Written in 16th century, the story of young lovers resonates with the audiences across the world and has been repeated endlessly in music, ballet and film, including the famous contemporary musical adaptation “West Side Story.”

The plot revolves around two feuding families and Shakespeare’s immortal young lovers who try to fashion a new world amid the violence of the old as cataclysmic choices and tragic twists propel them toward a final confrontation with fate.

The cast includes Dan White as Romeo, Destiny Walsh as Lord Montague, Alex Franke as Benvolio, Alex Burdick as Juliet, Alex Gordon as Lord Capulet, Ingrid Young as Lady Capulet, Lexy Glover as Tybalt, Callie Carroll as Nurse, Amanda Tamplen as Escales, Jalen McCrary as Mercutio, Hayden Heiserman as Paris, Grant Vancamp as Frair Lawrence, Josie Jarrett as Sister Jane, Carly Balog as Sampson, Autumn Carver as Abram, Anthony Hood as Balthasar, Ben Moore as Peter and Sarah Lemely as Capulet Dancer.

Tickets for all Hilltop Players productions are available through Brown Paper Tickets online and on sale 30 days prior to the opening of each production.
