Graphic Design Students Offer Services to Community

Share

POSTED:  Aug. 17, 2012 – For the past 13 years, senior graphic design majors at West Liberty University have offered their skills and talents as a service to the Ohio Valley. Associate Professor James Haizlett coordinates the program.

“This as an outreach to the community, helping organizations with limited budgets receive the services of our highly motivated, energetic and creative students,” Haizlett said.

Past projects have included logos, posters, brochures, billboards, book covers, presentations, signage and websites.

Haizlett is primarily interested in helping non-profit organizations and groups who do not have the funds to hire professional design services. The students form design “companies” and learn how to deal with clients on a professional level, setting budgets, timelines and following a design brief to completion.

“The experience is invaluable to the students because they learn how to deal with real clients. In turn, organizations throughout the Ohio Valley receive excellent design work to help market their organizations,” Haizlett said.

The program depends on local involvement and Haizlett asks that interested organizations contact him to receive an application by emailing jhaizlett@westliberty.edu. Project applications must be received by Sept. 10, 2012.

Haizlett is an associate professor in the College of Arts and Communication, one of five colleges at WLU. It is comprised of the Department of Media and Visual Arts and the department of music and theatre.

Led by President Robin C. Capehart, West Liberty University is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. For more information, please visit westliberty.edu or call 1.866.WESTLIB.
