Two graphic art students at West Liberty University were pleased to learn that their designs won awards recently.

Christina Boyd is shown with her NOW Foundation design.
Alexis Irvin is shown with her Italian Heritage design.

Christina Boyd was a winner in the NOW Foundation’s Love Your Body poster contest and Alexis Irvin’s work was selected for the West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival (Clarksburg) poster competition.

“I’m thrilled to be a winner in the NOW Foundation’s contest. It will be exciting to see my poster on the official website and in print,” Boyd said.

As one of the winning designs, Boyd’s poster will be featured on the NOW Foundation website, and it may be included in other Love Your Body campaign promotions. She also received a $200 check.

Irvin’s poster will soon be seen across the Mountain State.

“I’m happy that my poster will be used to promote the Italian Heritage Festival. I wanted to convey atmosphere, sort of a romantic idea, something bright and vivid,” said Irvin. She received a $100 check for her work.

Both students are studying graphic design in the College of Arts and Communication at West Liberty.

Boyd is a rising junior from Martins Ferry, Ohio, and is looking forward to more design competitions and eventually working in the graphic arts field. Irvin, Weirton, W.Va., is a rising senior and also plans to graduate in 2014 and find employment in the field of graphic communications.

“Poster competitions like these offer our students a chance to build their resume and receive professional feedback. We are pleased that they have achieved success for their efforts,” said Assistant Professor of Art Moonjung Kang, who instructs the students.
