Gary E. West College of Business Students Earn Awards

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Aug. 30, 2022 — West Liberty University students Mike Harriman and Cody Dixon-Rushman returned to campus this August with awards to share with campus.

“The Gary E. West College of Business is proud to announce that these two students competed in the National Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) Conference this summer and placed in four different competitions,” explained Dean Dr. Ann Saurbier, who leads the College of Business.

“We are very proud of these two students who traveled to Chicago, competed, networked, and shared their skills with the national audience attending the annual gathering. Congratulations to Mike and Cody! Thanks for representing WLU and the Gary E. West College of Business on a national level!”

Harriman is a Finance and Accounting major from Wheeling. He placed first in both the Personal Finance and Financial Concepts competitions and third in the Insurance Concepts competition.

Dixon-Rushman is a Cybersecurity and Computer Information Systems major from Shadyside, Ohio, who also serves as vice president of the Student Government Association. Dixon-Rushman placed 4th in the Cyber Security competition.

The student duo traveled to Chicago in June and competed against state winners from all over the U.S. in their respective competitions. They also attended the conference workshops and networked with other PBL members from across the country.

Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda, Inc. (FBLA-PBL) is the largest business Career and Technical Student Organization in the world, according to its website.

FBLA-PBL inspires and prepares students to become community-minded business leaders in a global society through relevant career preparation and leadership experiences.
