Family Weekend Gives Students Chance to Share with Siblings & Parents

Share

Family Weekend will be reestablished at West Liberty University this fall with a two-day event, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 19 -20. Hosted by West Liberty University’s Learning and Development Center along with the Office of Housing and Student Life, the weekend includes a variety of activities.

“Family weekend hasn’t been offered for a few years and this reinvigorated event offers siblings a chance to sleep-over in their sister’s or brother’s room on Friday night and enjoy campus. Then on Saturday, parents and other family members are offered a chance to visit,” said Campus Activities Coordinator Kate Billings. All guests must sign-in with the Resident Assistant.

Friday includes dinner in the Marketplace, followed by a 7 p.m., Hilltopper Volleyball game as the Lady Hilltoppers take on West Virginia State University. Afterwards there is an ice cream social in the College Union. The evening ends with an 8 p.m. movie in the Hoge Quadrangle (Quad), along with a bonfire and s’mores.

Saturday begins with a donut and juice breakfast at 8:30 a.m., followed by a campus scavenger hunt, both designed for siblings. Parents and other family members are invited to the 11 a.m. Q&A session with college deans and faculty in the alumni room.

At 11 a.m., there is a carnival on the Quad that includes inflatable activities, crafts and carnival snacks.

Family Weekend ends with Hilltopper Football, with a 1 p.m. kick-off as the Toppers take on West Virginia State University at West Family Stadium.
