
WEST LIBERTY, W. Va., January 17, 2025 — West Liberty University is proud to announce the recipients of the 2023-2024 Faculty Excellence Awards, recognizing the outstanding achievements and contributions of its dedicated faculty members. These awards honor excellence in professional activity, service, and teaching, reflecting the University’s commitment to academic excellence and community engagement.
“These dedicated individuals embody the spirit of excellence and commitment to West Liberty University’s mission. We are thrilled to celebrate their accomplishments and the profound impact they have on our students and our community,” remarked WLU Provost Dr. Cathy Cathy Monteroso.
Faculty Excellence in Professional Activity Award
This award recognizes extraordinary achievements in research, publication, and professional contributions. The 2023-2024 co-recipients are Dr. Felipe Rojas and Dr. Linda Cowan.
Dr. Felipe Rojas’s work in early modern Spanish literature includes international conference presentations and contributions to peer-reviewed collections, highlighting the global relevance of his research.
Dr. Linda Cowan, a 20-year member of the Department of Music and Theater, achieved significant milestones this year, including her invitation to perform with the Core Singers of the Mendelssohn Choir in a Grammy-nominated recording of Mozart’s Requiem.
Faculty Excellence in Service Award
The Faculty Excellence in Service Award honors individuals who go above and beyond in their dedication to the University. This year’s recipient is Sarah Davis, whose contributions were instrumental in organizing the University’s “Solar Eclipse Day” events and the President’s inaugural activities, as well as serving on the marketing committee.
Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award
The Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award celebrates innovative and impactful teaching. This year’s recipient is Dr. James Wood, who has inspired students to engage critically with climate change, biodiversity, and sustainability through creative course design and a dedication to student success.
The awardees were honored during a special ceremony, with each recipient invited to accept their award and participate in a group photo session.
