WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Feb. 10, 2020 — West Liberty University senior students in the Sarah Whitaker Glass School of Dental Hygiene competed in Charleston, W.Va., over the weekend and came home winners.
The WLU Red Team took first place and received a trophy and the Black Team earned fourth place.
“We are very proud of our students. It takes teamwork to compete and these students displayed that well,” said faculty member Jennifer Blaskovich, who is the academic laboratory instructing assistant in the Dental Hygiene Clinic.
The competition was called “It’s Hygienic” by Board Games LLC. West Liberty entered four teams competing with teams from Bridge Valley and West Virginia University.
The competition was set up like a television game show and each team answered questions pertaining to the field of dental hygiene.
The competition, which is in its second year of existence, was held at the Advanced Technology Center of South Central West Virginia at Bridge Valley Community and Technical College in South Charleston, W.Va.
Hosted by the West Virginia Dental Hygienists Association, the competition was designed to help students in studying for board exams and foster cooperation between the team members.
Blaskovich is herself an alumna of the WLU dental hygiene program and has taught at WLU for 34 years.
The Sarah Whitaker Glass School of Dental Hygiene is part of the College of Sciences, one of five colleges and a school of professional studies, housed at WLU. Stephanie Meredith, RDH MSDH, is the Dental Hygiene program director.
West Liberty University offers more than 70 undergraduate majors, plus a growing number of master degree programs.
