Cupid Wants Your Sweetheart Story

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Feb. 2, 2021 — West Liberty University’s Alumni Association is again paying tribute to married couples that met on the Hilltop with its “Let Me Call You Sweetheart” promotion.

This sweet “first date” photo was submitted by alumni Chuck ’69 and Joyce (Mason) ’70 Jeswilkowski of Burgettstown, Pa.
This is the happy sweethearts (Jeswilkowskis) today!

“We wanted to reach out and have a positive, fun event for alumni, especially in light of the COVID-19. We did a similar promotion 20 years ago and it was very popular. We had a great response then and we hope to get even more now,” explained Ron Witt, executive director of Alumni Relations and University Special Projects. “Alumni from all over the country enjoyed sharing memories of how they met their soulmates on the Hilltop.”

“Twenty years ago, the promotion was done in print in our alumni magazine, Top of the Hill. We also ran the photos and stories on the WLU website. This time we are relying on social media, along with traditional media to get the word out. We would like to hear from even more alumni, of all ages,” he said. Witt is an alumnus of the class of 1992 and has worked at WLU for nearly 24 years.

“With all the stress right now, it seems like the perfect time to redo this sharing of sweetheart stories for Valentine’s Day 2021,” agreed Becky Bugaj, who is the alumni engagement specialist in the Alumni Relations office.

What we said in 2001 still holds true today: “In addition to providing a high-quality education, West Liberty is a place where friendships develop, memories are made — and some turn into nuptials,” Witt added.

The WLU Alumni Association thank  everyone for sharing their story on the Hilltop and hope that all our alumni enjoy a Happy Valentine’s Day!
