Concert to Promote Mental Health Awareness Open to the Public

WEST LIBERTY, W. Va., Feb. 23, 2023 – West Liberty University’s College of Liberal and Creative Arts will present a Mental Health Awareness concert 5 – 8:30 p.m.Wednesday, March 1 in the College Union.

“The theme for the performance is mental health awareness and Dr. Douglas McCall has put together a diverse program,” said Dr. Matthew Harder, chairman of the Department of Music and Theater.

McCall is the director of Choral Activities at West Liberty University and he hopes to make this an annual event.

“We have artwork, dramatic poetry readings, a mental health guest speaker, and choral performances planned. It is free and open to the public and we hope lots of community members attend,” McCall added.

Also speaking will be John Antal LICSW, a WLU alumnus and social worker in Wheeling and . Members of the Theatre Department will add poetry reading to the mix too. Finally, at 8 p.m. a light reception will be held in the union ballroom.

Antal is director of hospital services for the new Orchard Park Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Hospital. He is married to WLU Counselor Dawn Antal, LICSW. 

WLU academic programs involved include: music, theatre, English, behavioral health, art, creative art therapy and social work.
