Coal Forum will Address Significance of Coal Exports to State, National Economy

President Robin C. Capehart will address West Virginia Coal Forum, to be held at the Highlands Center campus from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 15 at WLU’s Highlands Center, Triadelphia. The forum is co-chaired by WV Coal Association Vice President Chris Hamilton and UMWA Representative Fred Tucker.

The forum will represent both labor and management and will discuss the significance of coal exports to both the state and the national economy. Hamilton is also the chairman of WLU’s Industry Council, part of the Institute for Energy and Commerce.

According to a news release from Friends of Coal, information released by the West Virginia Division of Commerce in February showed a 40 percent growth in West Virginia’s coal exports in a year’s time, going from $5.3 billion in 2011 to $7.4 billion in 2012.
