Closing Reception for Polish Poster Exhibition at Nutting Gallery

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., April 11, 2022 – West Liberty University’s Nutting Art Gallery invites the public to enjoy a closing reception at noon, Wednesday, April 13 for its current art exhibition entitled: Generation 2.0. What’s Left After Polish School of Posters? The one-hour reception takes place in the Hall of Fine Arts.

Poster art is the colorful and meaningful topic of the current exhibition in the Nutting Gallery.

Held in partnership with the Jan Kochanowski University, located in Kielce, Poland, the reception will include comments by visiting artists and professors, Dr. Maciej Zdanowicz and Dr. Wojciech Domagalski. Zdanowicz and Domagalski also took time to lecture and instruct workshops throughout the week.

“The events surrounding Generation 2.0. What’s Left After Polish School of Posters? cover historical aspects by addressing the situation in Europe between World War l and ll as well as during the period of communism and censorship,” said Dr. Martyna Matusiak, WLU associate professor of art.

The exhibition closes with a reception serving good food at noon, Wednesday, April 13.

“Contemporary issues such as the situation in Ukraine is also discussed including relevant examples of the Polish School of Posters,” she added.

“By demonstrating how posters have become a medium of expression that surpass laws and rules made by politicians, the artists received a platform to speak their mind and provide criticism.”

Several outstanding artists known in this field such as Henryk Tomaszewski or Jan Lenica will be discussed.

Reference to the current exhibition at WLU will be drawn by taking a closer look on how the artists used posters respectively to express themselves and how it reflects contemporary circumstances and situations.

Guests are invited to join the closing reception not only to explore the exhibition but also to receive a chance of meeting the curators Zdanowicz and Domagalski.
