WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Nov. 18, 2019 — Enjoy a festive celebration of choral music as the West Liberty University Choirs present their annual holiday concert at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 23 at Christ United Methodist Church, 1232 National Road, Wheeling. The concert is free and open to the public, however donations will be accepted.
Under the direction of Director of Choral Activities Ryan Keeling, the concert will feature the WLU Singers and Choral Scholars presenting a concert of seasonal and holiday music with piano, strings and flutes.
There are 26 voices in the WLU Singers and 20 in the Choral Scholars.
A resident of Pittsburgh, Keeling joined WLU as its director of Choral Activities two years ago. Also an alumnus, he is the artistic director of Western Pennsylvania’s premier chamber choir Voces Solis, a premiere chamber choir, and assistant conductor of the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, as well as the Music Director of OvreArts.
The West Liberty University music program is nationally accredited by NASM, the National Association of Schools of Music, and is recognized for its award-winning faculty and staff.
Performance opportunities for music students at WLU include the Marching Hilltoppers, the Wind Symphony, WLU Singers, University Band, Choral Scholars, African Drumming and Dance Ensemble, Community Choir, Steel Bands, Hilltop Opera, Jazz Combos, Percussion Ensemble, and the Electronic Music Ensemble.
WLU’s Department of Music and Theater is housed within the College of Arts and Communication led by College Dean Dr. Matthew Harder and department chair Dr. Linda Cowan. It offers Bachelor of Music degrees in Music Performance and Music Technology and the Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education. Students also may choose to minor in music.
