WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., April 16, 2019 — Chi Omega sorority partnered with the Make-A-Wish Foundation in a clever fundraiser called, Kisses for Wishes. The event took place today on the Hoge Quadrangle.

“Last year one of our Chi Omegas brought her pet donkey Rita to campus in the inaugural year of this fundraiser and she was happy to bring Rita back this year. People pay $3 to nominate someone to kiss the donkey. The nominee will either kiss the donkey or pay $5 to get out of their nomination,” said Amanda Cordray, community service director for the sorority. Cordray is from Lancaster, Ohio.

Donor Emily McLean kisses Rita, while Chi Omega member Faith Sandy holds the leash.

All money raised will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This non-profit organization makes it possible for children battling critical illnesses to make a wish in order for them to be stronger in fighting their illness. Make-A-Wish was founded in the 1980s and now in 2019, more than 315,000 children have benefited from the wishes granted by Make-A-Wish, according to the website.

“Many communities of the national sorority Chi Omega have partnered with Make-A-Wish for a number of years which is why the WLU group chose Make-A-Wish for their fundraiser too. We had a really good turnout last year for the event and are excited for this year,” said Cordray.

WLU currently has 10 Greek organizations on campus. The national sororities and fraternities include Chi Omega, Alpha Xi Delta, Phi Delta Theta and Theta Xi. The remaining organizations are local sororities and fraternities, including the sororities Delta Theta Kappa, Lambda Psi Sigma and Beta Rho Epsilon. Fraternities on campus are Chi Nu, Kappa Delta Kappa, and Beta Theta Gamma.
