WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Dec. 18, 2019 — The West Liberty University Christmas Wish Tree continues to inspire employee giving with others at the holiday season. Staff and students alike get involved every fall and contribute gifts for those with tags on the tree.
“Our faculty, staff and students step forward every November and December to purchase and share gifts with children in need and we are happy to do it. West Liberty University enjoys giving to the community in this small way,” said Rhonda McCullough, senior admissions counselor and transfer counselor.
The outreach has gone on for more than 30 years, according to McCullough, who is assisted in the coordination of the project by Stephanie North, associate director of admissions.
“Like previous years, we are supporting St. John’s Children’s Home, and the Crittenton Services, but this year we are also assisting the Youth Services System (YSS) with its gift list,” she said.
Those who contributed 70 gifts for children, each worth between $25 –$30.
“Even our students get involved and take time to donate,” she said.
Each tag had a child’s name and personal Christmas wish printed on it. Participants then purchase the gift, place it in a gift bag or box, and return the tag and gift to the Enrollment Center.
Participants also were encouraged to make a monetary donation rather than shop for a gift, if they preferred. This money is then divide among the organizations, according to McCullough.
Gifts were picked up or delivered to the non-profit organizations in plenty of time for Christmas.
