BB&T Grant Continues to Support the University Economics Club

West Liberty University recently received a grant from the BB&T Charitable Foundation that will provide support for its University Economics Club.

“We are pleased to assist West Liberty University in its mission of providing students high quality education by offering them this grant and support for the economics club and its students,” said Jon Greer, BB&T market president. The 2013 gift amounts to $50,000.

Founded in 2009, the BB&T Center for Economic Philosophy at West Liberty University seeks to engage faculty, students and the public in serious and sustained examination of the free market. Various programs and speakers present topics of importance to students and the public throughout the year at Economics Club events.

Future events will be announced soon.

In recent years BB&T’s Charitable Foundation awarded similar grants to dozens of colleges and universities across the country to support teaching about capitalism and the free market system.

The University Economics Club is sponsored by the Center for Economic Philosophy and Dr. Erik Root, associate professor of political science, is chairman of the center.

“We are very grateful to the BB&T foundation and value this partnership that provides our students with opportunity to hear national speakers who are considered experts in their fields,” said Root.
