“The University wants every student to be successful and we are here to help. We have dozens of events to provide our students with all the facts, tips and assistance that they need,” said Jim Compston, area coordinator for first year residential experience in the Department of Housing and Student Life.

Housing and Student Life staff coordinates all the Topperfest activities, including social events and informational meetings. This year’s theme is Topper Pride.

“We are planning for a great year and a positive experience for all our students. One of the new events this year is a President’s Picnic from 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 21 at Colonial Heights. This will be a relaxed way for our new students and their families to meet and greet our president and to get to know each other,” said Compston.

Colonial Heights is the name given to the home that is the residence of each WLU President. It sits on a scenic hillside just above Faculty Drive. A sampling of Topperfest events include:

Topperfest ends at the West Family Stadium as Hilltopper Football takes on Concord University in a 1 p.m. game on Saturday, Sept. 5. Tailgating starts at 11 a.m.

WLU dorms include Rogers, Curtis, Hughes and Krise halls for for first year students. For upper class students the dorms are Bonar, Krise, Beta, University Place 1 and 2, the Commons Apartments and student houses. Due to technology upgrades, all WLU dorms now feature wireless Internet via new Comcast modems installed this summer.

The last day to enroll for the fall semester or to add a class is Sept. 2.
