West Liberty, W. Va., June 2, 2025 – West Liberty University’s Aspire U employee leadership and development program wrapped up its inaugural year by hosting the Community, Art, and Music Festival on the West Liberty University campus. The
festival was the culminating experience for the leadership program participants and was a fundraiser for the West Liberty Lions Club Family Support Center. A total of $1,122 was raised to support summer programming for the center.
“WLLCFSC is extremely grateful for the generosity of Aspire U through West Liberty University and all donors that contributed to the success of the fundraising event,” said Wendy Robinson, Center Director. “The money raised will help offset the cost to
ensure all families can continue receiving quality support throughout the summer.”
The inaugural year of the Aspire U Employee Leadership Program brought together a cohort of 11 participants from across the University. Over the course of the year, the group engaged in monthly, day-long sessions focused on leadership development,
which included exploring leadership theories, hearing from guest speakers, and taking part in a guided tour of Wheeling.
“The Community, Art, and Music Festival was a great success as we were able to put on an event that brought the community to campus, benefitted the wider community through the donations to the Lions Club Family Support Center, and provided experiential learning opportunities by showcasing our students’ talents,” said Pat Kelly, WLU Director of Purchasing and program participant. “Our hope is
that this festival becomes an annual event on campus.”
Miriam Douglas, Professor of Education and a program participant states, “Being part of West Liberty University’s ASPIRE U Leadership Program was an incredible learning experience, made even more meaningful by the opportunity to support the
West Liberty Lions Club Family Support Center. As both a member of the WLU team and a board member of the Family Support Center, it was truly special to give back to an organization doing such important work in our community.”
