SGA Homecoming 2022, Serenades, Candidates and More

WEST LIBERTY, W.VA., OCT. 17, 2022 — West Liberty University students kicked off their Homecoming 2022 celebrations Sunday, Oct. 16 with banner presentations, yard games and a food truck. Activities and events for students are planned for the whole week.

Students will vote for their pick of Homecoming King and Queen on Wednesday, Oct. 19.

Students enjoy the tradition of Serenades in College Hall today, Oct. 17. An entertainment competition sponsored by the Student Government Association (SGA), the event features homecoming candidate performing short skits before a panel of judges and fellow students. Showtime is 9:15 p.m.

2022 King and Queen Candidates and the organizations they represent include:

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 18, the candidates will take on the role of celebrity servers in the Bear’s Den (cafeteria). Between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., a Topper paw cookie decorating event will be hosted in the Union Ballroom.

On Wednesday, Oct. 19, students can look forward to Tent Day presented by SGA, planned for midday on the Quad and between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., students can vote on who they wish to see as Homecoming Queen and King. Free food and giveaways will be available.

At 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20 on the Quad, students are invited to a Pep Rally presented by SGA, Topper’s Den and Student Life. A bonfire, performances by WLU’s Dance Team and Marching Hilltoppers, food, and games are all on the itinerary for the night.

On Friday, Oct. 21 between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., students are invited to join the homecoming candidates and other organizations in performing community service as they clean up the campus and neighboring town of West Liberty. 

Saturday, Oct. 22 Homecoming festivities kick off with tailgating featuring food trucks, live music and fun activities starting at 8 a.m.

At 10:15 a.m. the annual Homecoming Parade begins and travels from the town of West Liberty’s Volunteer Fire Department through WLU’s Main Campus. After that, students and alumni are invited to tailgate before and during the homecoming game as the Hilltoppers battle their rival, the Wheeling University Cardinals, with a kick off at 1 p.m. at the West Family Stadium. WLU’s 2022 Homecoming Queen and King will be crowned during the Halftime Ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 22.

Students end their homecoming festivities with the Homecoming Dance starting at 9 p.m. at the River City Bar & Restaurant and ending at 1 a.m.
