WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Sept. 26, 2022 — A group of West Liberty University athletic alumni, known as the Pine Room Podcast, are taking part in the entrepreneur pitch competition known as “Show of Hands” and coordinated by Wheeling Heritage.

The doors open at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 28 at the Wheeling Artisan Center, 1400 Main St. Wheeling. Pitching of the projects begins at 6:30 p.m.

“We are seeking our alumni and friends’ support and votes as the Pine Room Podcast goes up against three other small business start-ups seeking the public’s support and funding. We invite WLU campus and alumni to support us in our endeavor,” said Brian Campbell, a 2022 graduate from the College of Business.

The cost to attend the live new business competition is just $5 and after each of the four entrepreneur businesses present a four-minute sales pitch, the audience is asked to vote on the winner.

The winning start-up receives a grant from Wheeling Heritage amounting to the votes received, plus more than $3,000 in funding.

The Pine Room Studios, LLC began as a few friends sitting around a fire-pit under two large pine trees and developed into a top-tier entertainment venue right here in Wheeling.

Campbell and his Pine Room Podcast team currently host a live high school and regional sports show on local radio station (WKKX) on Mondays along with releasing two different podcasts per week. Funding from Show of Hands would help the Pine Room Podcast purchase more production equipment to put on higher-quality live shows.

By bringing more content, listeners, sponsors and followers, the Pine Room Podcast plans to give back to the community by offering internships and full-time opportunities for students, according to Campbell.
