WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., March 24, 2020 — West Liberty University announced today that all in-seat classes remain suspended through the end of the spring semester due to COVID-19. Additionally, all events are cancelled through April. The recently established alternate learning format continues.
“It is clear that we must continue social distancing and our emergency response to the current national crisis. Our faculty began to prepare for this last week and worked through many hours of training to learn the options available for this transition. We want the best for our students and this allows us to provide the quality classroom instruction and class completion that they deserve,” said President Stephen Greiner.
The change from traditional classroom instruction to alternative learning formats allowed the faculty to learn how to deliver class content via videoconferencing, discussion boards and other methods. WLU’s Office of eLearning provided training.
The move to alternative learning methods began March 23 and is progressing, according to Greiner.
“We are grateful to our faculty and our students as this situation unfolds. If we work together, we will get through this. If students have concerns, we are here for them,” Greiner said.
WLU’s IT Services Department is available to support students who may need more help during this time.
For students needing tutoring services, the Learning and Student Development Center, under the direction of Chris McPherson, interim director, offers one-on-one options for Peer Tutoring and Academic Coaching.
Students may schedule appointments through TutorTrac. No study labs will be offered. Questions can be directed to wltutor@westliberty.edu.
The Robinson Writing Center, under the direction of Dr. Amanda Berardi Tennant is offering online consultations Monday through Friday. Students can sign up and learn more about the online writing center platform by clicking here.
All cancellations and suspension of in-seat classes includes the Highlands Center campus as well as the Main Campus.
