Adam Truex Named Student Speaker for 2016 Spring Commencement

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., April 27, 2016 — West Liberty University graduating senior Adam Truex was honored recently when he was named student speaker for Spring Commencement, to be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 7, in the Academic, Sports and Recreation Complex (ASRC).

Truex is enrolled in the School of Professional Studies and will receive the Bachelor of Leadership and Administration (BLA) degree from Dr. Stephen Greiner, WLU president.

“I’m very proud of Adam. He is an exemplary adult student who has met the responsibilities of family and career while excelling in his academic program. He demonstrates the professionalism and leadership that is at the core of what our BLA program teaches,” said Dean of the School of Professional Studies Dr. Thomas Michaud, located at the Highlands Center Campus.

A resident of Glen Dale, W.Va., Truex will speak on the non-traditional student path to higher education, celebrating the fact that it’s never too late to earn a degree. A native of Moundsville, Truex is employed fulltime at OME-RESA, the Ohio Mid-Eastern Regional Education Service Agency, located in Steubenville, Ohio.

Truex also is a veteran of the United States Navy, retiring in 2013 after 21 years of combined service, having served eight years of active duty and an additional 13 years in the active reserves.

Currently a candidate for Marshall County Board of Education, he is married and he and his wife Trish are the parents of two children, Austin and Madison.

Dr. Dianna Vargo, Ohio County Schools Superintendent, will be the commencement speaker and also will receive an honorary degree.

Three hundred and seventy eight students are expected to complete graduation requirements during the spring semester and the graduating student with the highest grade point average in each respective college carries the college banner.

The Commencement Ceremony will be televised live on WLU-TV Comcast Channel 14 and a reception for graduates, guests and families will be held in the College Union immediately following the ceremony.
