WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., May 11, 2017 — Before the academic year closes, West Liberty University students take the time to reward an employee with its annual Staff of the Year honor.

This year the students selected Activities Coordinator Kate Billings for the honor, which was announced at Spring Convocation.

“This award means so much. Our students make West Liberty University vibrant and successful. Their hard work and commitment to academics, athletics and student life keep the Hilltop hopping and I’m pleased to be a part of it. I thank them for this honor,” Billings said. She received the award from Student Government President Reid Boden.

Her office was responsible for countless educational or entertainment programs this past year. Two new ones were an informative leadership program offered to all club or organizations in the fall and a Greek Life Awards Banquet offered this spring.

Both were well attended and important for students, according to Boden.

“Kate is so deserving for this honor. She’s available and helpful to all students and we are grateful for her work,” he added.

Students pick the staff honoree via nominations and voting organized by the Student Government Association every spring.

Billings joined the University in January 2014 and is responsible for planning campus events and activities, supervising clubs and organizations and overseeing the Greek life system of fraternities and sororities.

Previously, Billings was assistant general manager of softball operations and director of ticketing and merchandise with the PA Rebellion and the Washington Wild Things.

She began her career with the Wild Things in 2010, working in community relations and merchandise. Before that, Billings started her professional career in sports with the Bridgeport Bluefish, Bridgeport, Conn., as the merchandise and client services coordinator.

A native of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Billings earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Consulting/Leadership degree from Binghamton University (New York).

The 2017 award is the second time Billings was singled out by students for her work. She previously received Staff of the Year in 2015.
